Taken at Finnick Glen in Scotland. There is a steep descent into the ravine but there are some fixed ropes if they can be trusted. Planning for this shot meant taking the ball gown in a rucksack since a shortie wetsuit is needed to get as far as this point. Quick change and setup the shot. It is a slow shutter speed of 4 seconds on a tripod to get the blurring of the water but with the addition of fill in flash aimed to the left to add more light. Still have to stand very still with the long exposure.

Sunset with a forecast of a strong breeze in the Gilly Islands, Lombok. Off camera flash to the left to balance the lighting, otherwise this shot would be more of a silhouette.

Taken in a studio. The ball bearings are placed on a flat mirror with a tiny amount of blu-tack to prevent them rolling away. Static lighting used since the reflections must be seen, checked and modified to get an acceptable result. Vignette added to the corners in post processing.

Planning the timing for a shot is another aspect. Technically this shot is fairly straightforward, tripod mounted but with a Lee super stopper filter to slow the shutter speed down and hence get the smoothness to the water. Taken at Bamburgh in the early morning, setting up the shot well before sunrise and using a photo planning app to determine the time and angle of the sunrise.
